Bio:
Based in Pretoria, South Africa, Ndivhu Crunchy Clay was born from a genuine love of clay and a passion for sharing earthy textures with others. Through years of learning and experimenting, Ndivhu has developed a range of natural clays that celebrate authentic flavours, creamy textures, and the comforting nostalgia of soil after the rain.

Who or what inspires your creativity in the world of clays and textures?

Actually, no one specifically inspires me. I simply have a deep love for clay! I have spent a lot of time learning and experimenting on my own to understand how different types of clay can be maintained and prepared to get the best results.

Can you tell us about the first time you discovered eating clay, chalk, or felt a craving for it?

It started when I was pregnant with my firstborn. I used to pass street vendors selling it all the time and never had any interest. Then, one day, I just knew it was exactly what I wanted. I bought some and I have never felt so happy! It helped me immensely with pregnancy symptoms like nausea and spitting. Even after my pregnancy, I found I was still enjoying it, so I just continued.

Which of your products is your personal favourite, and why?

Sandy Brown is definitely my favorite. I love the earthiness and the creaminess. The texture really brings out that natural smell of soil on a rainy day. To me, it feels like the closest thing to the real anthill soil I used to eat in the villages when going back home.

If you could describe your ideal crunch in three words, what would they be?

Earthly, velvety, smooth with a rich mud.

What is your favourite texture to work with—and eat!

I prefer soft and semi-hard textures. I actually have quite sensitive teeth, so very hard and crunchy pieces don't work well for me. Even though I love the taste and that creamy, muddy flavor of "Choco," I have to try to avoid it most of the time because of the hardness.

Which flavours or earthy notes do you always find yourself craving?

Sandy Brown, but I think Soft Yellow is becoming my everyday craving! I can never get enough of those specific earthy chunks, but I don't want to betray my Sandy Brown. 🫣🤣

Can you share a funny or memorable moment from making your products?

Oh, 🫣 I was once packaging a parcel of Soft Yellow for a customer. It was the very last of my stock. I ended up eating the entire bag myself while I was working! I had to contact the customer and refund them because I'd literally eaten their order. 🙈😀

If you could invent a new clay flavour or texture, what would it be?

I would love a non-sour peach. I feel like many people avoid peach because of the sourness, so creating a version with a hard crunchy peach would be amazing.
