Product Overview: English Chiltern Vale Chalk (550g)
Self-foraged from the historic chalk hills of southern England, this batch of English Chiltern Vale Chalk offers a pure, naturally processed pica experience. Carefully washed, soaked, air-dried, and broken into irregular bite-sized pieces, each chunk is a taste of England’s ancient seabeds.
The pieces range in size from dainty pebbles to satisfyingly chunky bites (1–20 cm), giving a varied and tactile crunch experience. The texture is medium-soft with a gentle snap that quickly melts into a smooth, powdery paste—perfect for those who savour subtlety over strength.
This chalk is about texture first, flavour second. It carries a delicate mineral taste—dry dust, faint tang, and soft limestone. There’s also a gentle damp cement-like quality that gives it a grounding mouthfeel—slightly cool, slightly clingy—without tipping into muddy or metallic territory. It’s a mellow, meditative crunch ideal as a standalone or palate cleanser between stronger flavours.

Traditional Clay Origins:
Chiltern chalk hails from a prehistoric seabed formed over 90 million years ago. Harvested from the Chiltern Hills—an iconic chalk landscape in southern England—this chalk has long shaped the region’s geology, ecology, and even its myths. While it may not have a deeply documented history in geophagia, its purity and softness have made it a quiet favourite among modern UK-based earth eaters seeking something clean, local, and gentle.

Materials + Care
Storage Tips
To keep your clays and treats fresh, crunchy, and full of flavour, always store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from moisture, humidity, and strong odours. Exposure to air or dampness can alter both texture and taste.
We highly recommend using our stash boxes, available on the website — designed specifically to protect and organise your clay collection with ease.
Handling Guidelines
- clean, dry hands.
- wooden spoon included with your order
Fragility Disclaimer
All clay treats and terracotta pot products are handmade and naturally fragile, making them susceptible to breakage during delivery.
While we take great care in packing each item securely, minor cracks, chips, or crumbled pieces may occur. This is a natural part of working with handcrafted clays and does not affect taste or enjoyment.
To help, every order includes a wooden spoon — ideal for enjoying broken pieces or powder just as deliciously as the whole form.
