🫢 Who I’ve shared my personal pica secret with…

Let’s get personal for a moment.

If you’re part of the Earthy Crunch UK community, you probably already know I’m deep in the world of crunchy cravings. Clay. Chalk. Soil. Slate. That comforting crack when you bite down. That earthy smell that hits just right. The joy of a fresh stash delivery. You get it.

But here's the thing: not everyone does.
And I haven’t told everyone in my life about it either.

The Inner Circle

Let’s start with who does know.

  • My husband – Absolute legend. Supportive, curious, sometimes side-eyes the stash drawer but ultimately lets me crunch in peace. He gets it (or at least tries to).

  • My parents – Mum had questions. Dad didn’t say much. But they’re cool with it. I think deep down they’re just glad I’m not eating bricks.

  • My siblings – They know. They laugh about it in that sibling way, but there’s no judgment. They’ve seen weirder from me over the years, let’s be real.

That’s… about it.

The Great Wall of Silence (aka everyone else)

Friends? Extended family? Workmates?
Nope.

One time, I half-joked to a friend that I once tried a bit of plaster wall. Just to see. The silence that followed? Deafening. Their face went through all five stages of confusion, horror, and concern in under five seconds. It was like I told them I snack on gravel for fun (okay, maybe not that far off).

Let’s just say: I didn’t bring it up again.

Why the Secrecy?

Pica and geophagy aren’t exactly mainstream dinner table topics. Unless you’re part of the community, it can sound bizarre, even alarming. And because of that, many of us keep it private — not out of shame, but just to avoid awkward conversations.

But privacy doesn’t mean loneliness.

Since starting Earthy Crunch UK, I’ve met so many people who share these cravings. Some whisper it. Some post full-on ASMR crunch videos. Some have been hiding it for years. And every single one of them makes me feel a little more normal. A little more seen.

Finding My Voice (One Crunch at a Time)

Creating this brand has helped me come out of my shell (or should I say, crunch out of my clay? 😅). It’s been a way to connect with others who get it. To make space for people who love the taste, the texture, the ritual — without having to explain or justify.

I’m still not telling my boss or my neighbour. But I am telling you.
And for now, that feels like enough.

You Don’t Have to Tell Everyone — Just Find Someone

Whether you’ve told your whole family, just your cat, or only your journal — that’s okay. Your cravings are yours. How you share (or don’t) is completely up to you.

And if you’re looking for subtle ways to say “I’m one of you,” without spelling it out?
That’s where the Pica Pride merch comes in. 😏
Check it out [here] (insert your shop link) — no questions asked, just good vibes and good design.

Thanks for reading this little confession. If you’ve got a story of your own — who you've told (or haven’t) — I’d love to hear it. No pressure. No judgment. Just crunchy solidarity.

🧡 Stay safe, stay hydrated, stay crunchy.
