Details
South African Peach Clay is a soft, mineral-rich edible clay sourced from Pretoria, prized for its delicate, warm peach-orange tones and gentle, earthy flavour. Rich in kaolinite and naturally infused with iron oxides, this clay sits between the creamy whites of ingceke and the deep reds of Letsoku, offering a visually appealing and subtly sweet-tasting experience.
In its natural form, the clay breaks into irregular chunks that are soft yet slightly firm, providing a mild crunch that quickly softens in the mouth. Moisture enhances its creamy, almost melt-in-the-mouth texture, releasing subtle earthy, mineral notes balanced by a delicate sweetness reminiscent of toasted soil or light caramel undertones.
Peach Clay carries both cultural and practical significance: it is traditionally used in Xhosa rites of passage, as a skin cleanser, and for sun protection. Its natural mineral content also makes it a popular choice for edible clay enthusiasts seeking a smooth, gentle, and aesthetically vibrant experience. Each batch is unrefined, so colour, texture, and taste may vary slightly, reflecting the natural variability of South African soils.

Traditional clay origins
Peach-colored clays, part of the Letsoku and ingceke families, have long been used in Southern African cultures for traditional rituals, skincare, and artistic purposes. They are valued for cleansing, exfoliating, and sun protection, as well as for their gentle, edible qualities. Being naturally sourced, small impurities may occasionally be present and pieces should be checked before consumption.

Storage Tips
To keep your clays and treats fresh, crunchy, and full of flavour, always store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from moisture, humidity, and strong odours. Exposure to air or dampness can alter both texture and taste.
We highly recommend using our stash boxes, available on the website — designed specifically to protect and organise your clay collection with ease.
Handling Guidelines

All clay treats and terracotta pot products are handmade and naturally fragile, making them susceptible to breakage during delivery.
While we take great care in packing each item securely, minor cracks, chips, or crumbled pieces may occur. This is a natural part of working with handcrafted clays and does not affect taste or enjoyment.
